That's My Type

I told my son a few months ago that I wanted to write a song with him about type 3's. He loved it and quickly came up with a tune. He recorded it with my iphone and I listened to it over and over for weeks.
Nothing came to me. I would listen all the time and I could not come up with anything. A chorus, a melody, nothing.
"Dude, why don't you try to come up with something because nothing is coming to me." My son took the challenge and in no time sang the chorus to me. We made a few changes to it but he pretty much wrote the lyrics for the chorus.
After hearing the chorus, the verses came to out of us quickly. I wrote it all down and we both liked it.
"What about a bridge?" George wanted to add a little something before the last chorus.
"What did you have in mind?"
"Well I think there should be something in there about knowing what you have to do but not wanting to ever do it. Like if you needed my help like seriously needed my help I know what to do but I am so scared that I will mess up or something. It actually scares me a lot when I think about it."
That was all he had to say and the bridge was born.
That was pretty much it. It was awesome to do with my son. It is awesome to have something that gives the props to the support we get. And I also think that each one of us needs to recognize that we are type 3's too.
Anyhow, if you did not see the clip from yesterday please click here to check it out on You Tube.
Below I have listed the lyrics to the song so you can sing along with us. Thank you for supporting your loved ones with diabetes. Support is priceless.
That's My Type By George S Simmons & George D Simmons
I wish I could take away your pain
But since I can’t I’ll let you know.
There is one thing I want to say.
If you take my hand and let me in I can
be the strength you need to help you stand
I cannot sit by and watch you cope alone
So I’ll try my best to understand.
But there’s one thing I want to say.
‘cause it’s a battle just to live everyday
so I will be with you every step of the way
and even though I don’t know what it’s like
I’m here to help you 'cause that’s my type.
I’ll never treat you with any contempt
but it scares me just to hear you lament
now you’ll never be alone in this fight
I’m here to help you 'cause that’s my type.
that’s my type.
Since I can’t walk in your shoes every day
there is no way I can know your way
but I’m always hear to lend an ear and stand
by your side 'til your okay
But there’s one thing I want to say.
‘cause it’s a battle just to live everyday
so I will be with you every step of the way
and even though I don’t know what it’s like
I’m here to help you 'cause that’s my type.
I’ll never treat you with any contempt
but it scares me just to hear you lament
now you’ll never be alone in this fight
I’m here to help you 'cause that’s my type.
that’s my type
Even though I know I’m prepared
There’s a part of me that is so scared
still you know I’m there anyway
there’s just one thing I want to say.

George x 2....love it guys!!!
my wife and I watched it yesterday! we're parents of a 7 yr old type 1. absolutely loved it! thanks for sharing it with us all.
Nice, it is always great finding those quality father to son moments to share on anything you both enjoy, my son has an idea to build his first car from scratch so I guess my weekends for the next 6 years are pretty much booked.....lol
George, I just watched it yet again... beautifully written and performed. You guys are awesome. Thank you so much for sharing this. :-)
Awesome !!! :D
I've watched this over and over. George is AMAZING. (both of them!)
I would leave a comment, but it's best summed up here: http://www.d-mom.com/not-a-dry-eye/
You and your son really captured what it's like to be a T3 and the emotions that come with it. Thank you!
Beautiful, George. Great song, great meaning and truly a great thing to see live music in a living room. Now, that's family. Thank you for sharing.
Wow...thanks, George. Your family has awesome talent. What an amazing son you have there! As a Type 3, I sincerely appreciate this song. It's beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful.
So so beautiful, thank you. My husband and T1 daughter and I watched it together and we all love it. :)
Knowing some of the story behind it makes it even more incredible and moving to me. Not only was it great to watch you guys actually perform it, but I loved hearing about how it came to be too.
I have tears coming down after reading about writing this song. I found it on another diabetes blog and had to come to yours. My husband and children have been awesome supporters for me always, but they really stepped up to the plate when I was diagnosed with Type 2 back in March 2008. One of my kids even asked me to sign her up for the ADA's Step Out even though we had a scheduling conflict and couldn't attend (we signed up as virtual walkers). Most of my children are planning to join in next year. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
The lyrics and song touched my heart! I'm a type 1 mom to an 11 year old boy (AJ). After today...I consider myself a Type 3. Thank you!
