So Many Updates

It’s been over a month since I’ve written a blog post. So much has happened.
My sister’s surgery was a success. She began chemotherapy last week and so far is doing well.
I had to have another surgery to repair my artery after the angiogram I had in November. My incision became infected and caused some major issues for me. I was out of work for almost the entire month of December.
My stepmothers memorial service was beautiful. There were so many people there I hadn’t seen in years. It was bitter sweet. I gave the elegy and was told it was touching. This was the second one I have ever given and although it is difficult, it is such an honor and privilege.
My family all got together for our annual Cabin Christmas in Flagstaff Arizona. It was the weekend before my sister started chemo and the day after my stepmom’s service. Not a holly jolly time but a great one still. Don’t get me wrong, we had a lot of fun but the rough road ahead was on all of our minds now and then. Still it was good to be with family.
We spent a lot of time going through pictures my sister brought from my stepmom’s house. Us kids have never gone through my dad’s stuff before so it was bittersweet. We laughed about old times and cried about them too. I do finally feel like I have some closure with dads death. Sure it was 21 years later but this exercise is an important closing chapter to grieving that us kids never got to do until now.
I scanned hundreds of pictures and we split up other things he had. Luckily we are not the people to argue over who has what. As far as we are concerned, if one of us has something, we all have it. That was nice.
And lastly, my blog just turned 7 years old yesterday. I am going to do my best to keep writing and sharing my life regardless of how boring or redundant it may be. The fact is, this place is my therapy and my soapbox. After 7 years it is an extension of me and I am thankful for it and anyone who sees it.
Here’s to a better year ahead.
