Ninja Rant

I am feeling a bit sassy today so I hope you don’t mind a little…

NINJA RANT!

First let’s start with Meg.

My family watched these videos with me because I wanted to get their reactions. They had not read all the posts I had about the new campaign so I figured we would see what the Simmons family thought.

My son did not like the play on words with the whole “give diabetes the finger” thing. My wife thought she was a little creepy. My daughter was probably sitting in front of the screen with her nose in a book as usual.

So here is my take.

I hate type 1 diabetes. I want more than anything more awareness and more education about it. If that means “Meg” than so be it. I could pick it apart, heck I could probably find things that bacon really would not make better but I am not going to. The fact is we need more and more type 1 campaigns out there. It’s not a lie. The JDRF is not putting out bad info right? It’s all good. Meg, you go girl!

Next.

This ad that ran in the NY Times and Washington Post.

First off, I have to give the JDRF mad props for all they are doing. Sure the ad was scary, the number freaked me out, and putting on a kid on there really tugged at the heartstrings.

But you know what? So be it. People need to understand that diabetes is serious. The FDA needs to know! How many times have people said, “well at least it is manageable” to you when they find out you or a loved one has diabetes. If someone had cancer would you say, “well at least there is chemo?” No. Never. That belittles the disease and makes it not a big deal. DIABETES IS A BIG DEAL and anyone who thinks differently needs more education about it!

Here’s the thing. If bad information is being distributed than I think we need to stop it. But if someone is trying to raise awareness about type 1 and they are not putting out bad info than we should be thankful.

Awareness raised = Win!

Take your lens and zoom out a little. Sometimes the view is better when you look at the whole picture.

You Tube Tuesday #247

We always have music playing in our home. Especially when we are cleaning up.

This kid knows exactly how to load the dishwasher! Sure it may take longer but it is so much better!

Enjoy!

Have You Done It?

I am talking about the Big Blue Test of course!

You have? AWESOME!

Did you know you can do it again? and again?

Did you know that your loved ones can also do the test?

And they can do it again and again too!

We need to get to 8000 people by World Diabetes Day! Each entry will trigger a donation by Roche Diabetes Care, that will benefit 6 nonprofit programs helping people with diabetes in need:

  • Life For a Child, run by International Diabetes Federation (US$25,000)
  • LIFT For Teens/Walk and Play For Wellness, San Rafael,  CA ($US10,000)
  • Moundville Medical Clinic, Alabama (US$10,000)
  • Pecos Valley Medical Center, Pecos, NM (US$10,000)
  • St. Anthony Medical Clinic, San Francisco, CA (US$10,000)
  • Rural clinics run by UC Denver School of Pharmacy (US$10,000)

So Test. Get Active. Test Again. Share.

It really is that easy! So join in on the Big Blue Test, do something good for your health and something great for people with diabetes!

Count On It

We have some new employees at work and this week they are in our office training.

It is always good to step back from what you do all the time and train someone who knows nothing about your company or your industry. It allows you to really see how much you know about what you do. It's like updating your resume. Self assessment happen when you have to teach others what you know. I dig that.

At my work we always eat lunch together in our break room. Today the new team members sat with us and the conversation between them was cracking me up.

A couple of them are very interested in losing weight and one is trying to gain some weight. Whenever anyone thinks "needing to gain weight" is a blessing, images of starving kids pop into my head. People sometimes need to gain weight for medical purposes. It is not always a blessing.

The other thing that cracked me up was the two of them counting calories and complaining how difficult it is. "You are going to drive yourself crazy counting calories all the time. To have to do that every time I eat anything would be torture!"

Oh I wanted to say what you know I wanted to say, but I didn't.

I just wore blue and smiled.

Easy A

"A" being Advocacy.

This probably would have been a good post for yesterday since the whole Wordless Wednesday thing happens but since I am always behind the times I will make it Thursday's post.
