The Nerve

Last night when I sat down on my bed I felt a horrible pain in my lower back.

I don't know if I twisted my body in a weird way or something but as soon as I sat down it hurt.

All night I tossed and turned trying to alleviate the pain and nothing helped. I got up around 3:00AM and took two Aleve which did nothing to relieve anything. Nice.

So this morning as I just barely made it up out of bed and to the shower I had this pain shooting down my right leg. It feels like my whole leg wants to fall off and my back is having a party at the same time.

It is awful.

My drive to work was torture also. What sucks is that there is no way to sit that is comfortable, or stand. If I lie flat on my back I am okay but it is hard for me to sleep like that, not to mention ANY time I move the pain is back.

My wife says it's my Sciatica nerve. I am not sure if that means I am being a wuss or what but I am telling you, all I want is serious drugs to kill this pain.

Alright, now I know I am being a wuss. I am going to try and suck it up and get through the day.

Getting old sucks.

Back pain can be very, well painful. I have slight scoliosis (sp?) so live with constant pain in my lower back. I usually can't stand or walk more than 5-10 minutes without being in pain. So I can relate to what you're feeling. I hope you find some relief very soon!

It does sound like it could be sciatica. The Other Half had a bout of this back in June and ended up on short-term disability for three months. Mild sciatica can be treated with oral medications, but if it's really bad (like, can hardly sit up), the docs may need to inject a numbing agent into the nerve. Please have someone look at it to verify and, if necessary, treat it.

Ouch, yes, sciatica can be horrid. Been there done that.

It's what sent annoying sales guy #2 to napping on our conference table a few weeks back.

A wuss? I don't think so! Sciatica, or any other kind of back pain can be truly awful. I've never had true sciatica, but I did have a prolapsed disc that pressed on a nerve for a while and that was excruciating. I don't know if they sell those heat pad things that you stick directly on your skin there, but they are pretty soothing. Hope it gets better soon.

I dealt with that during one of my pregnancies and was pretty sure it was going to do me in. On a side note, I hear those kidney stones are pretty unrelenting as well :(

Hope you feel better super stat!

Sciatic pain is horrid. You're not being a wuss at all!! Go see a chiropractor if appropriate, AFTER you get it diagnosed properly by a doctor with supporting tests and your doctor clears you to see a chiro. You may have something obvious pressing on the nerve and chiro isn't appropriate.

Really, sciatic pain is right up there. Any kind of stressful pain like that can make your BGs go up, so watch for that too!

I wish you better!

Sounds like something that happened to my mom. Spinal decompression sessions seemed to help her out.

I'm fortunate never to have experienced anything like this (yet??? ) but from what I hear, you are SO not being a wuss. I hear it's the worst pain you can ever imagine - and I've heard this from women who have birthed entire human beings with no drugs!!! I hope it clears up very soon, and that you get some really strong pain killers. {{{gentle hugs}}}
