I Need My Eleven

Almost a month ago I told you all that I was going to try something different.

I did.

And I am giving up.

Please hear me out because my reason for stopping is reasonable.

I was all gung ho for trying the Sure T infusion sets for my pump. I had a few samples from my buddy Sara to try, which I loved.

The Sure T infusion sets have a steel needle on the end that stays in you until you change the site. It seems to me that by having that needle at the end, as opposed to the plastic cannula on the end of the Quick-Sets I was using before, eliminated a variable. The always annoying bent cannula.

So after trying it out I changed my order from Medtronic and had them send me a 3 month supply of Sure-T’s. And now I need to send them back.

The problem I have is the tubing length. You see the Quick-Sets I use are 43” long. It makes it easy to put the pump in my pocket and on *ahem* bathroom visits it is no big deal. There is plenty of tubing to drop my trousers and not yank my site out.

But the longest you can get with the Sure-T’s is 32”! That is 11” gone! It was a pain getting dressed, choosing were to put my site, and the bathroom visit we annoying.

I can’t do it.

If Minimed had Sure-T’s with 43” of tubing from the spot that attached to your body (there is a disconnect point on a separate site from the needle so you don’t have to take it out every time you need to disconnect) than I would be all over it!

But until then, I need my 11”. Sorry Sure-T’s.

It's the little things like this that PWOD's don't understand and have no clue that you all deal with these things and a million others, on a constant basis! How hard can it be or how much can it cost to add a little extra tubing for heaven's sake! Maybe we should launch a writing campaign to Minimed to add more tubing !!!

So hear you, George. I used to have the long ones too. But now I have shorter ones and hate having to unhook whenever those situations arise. Fortunately, I wear dress shirts with a pocket most days and can put the unclipped pump from my belt in that pocket as needed. But it's still a pain. Sorry the Sure Ts didn't work out for you because of that!

I need the longer tubing too! Like Jeanne says, these are the little big things that people don't appreciate.

I used to buy Silhouettes with 43" tubing and just switch the tubing to the Sure-Ts. I was told many times they would come out with Sure-Ts with 43" tubing, but they never did, unfortunately.

Bummer dude!

I was going to tell you what Lili just did about the Silhouettes and using that tubing, but I am not sure if that hassle is worth it to you.

At least you gave it a try!

What I'd like to see is ALL tubing makers providing at least 3 set lengths: 21, 32, and 43. For me the 43 is too long, and the 21 is too short. But I don't have an option for 32. If everyone used a luer lock, we could just trade tubes. Grrr.

I have the same problem too George - but sadly - I can't use the plastic cannula's due to Teflon allergies - so I've had to compromise - which sometimes can be a *B* . One thing (I use Contact Detach - same as Sure T) - I still have longer tubing from another type of infusion set made by the same company as the Sure T's - I haven't tried it out yet - but am hoping that I can use them for when I need that extra length. Wierd tho' - if we all started to ask for longer tubing - do you think maybe they'd start producing them ? I've asked Animas that same question - but they don't really say yes/no/maybe so. Maybe we D-OCer's should all start flooding http://www.autocontrol.com/diabetes_products/contact.htm (UnoMedical) that produce our infusion sets with emails demanding longer tube length!!
