Happy Brother and Sister Day!
Monday, August 22, 2011 at 8:47AM Today is the official day chosen 8 years ago as Brother and Sister day by my kids. This is also the day Band Camp starts so to make Brother and Sister day awesome my kids decided to observe the day on Saturday instead.
It started with what has become a 4 year tradition on Brother and Sister day. The making of Ice Box Cake. They normally make it in a roll shape but this year they decided to do it in a casserole dish to make it more "cake" like.
After that it was movie time. Gillian got to pick which meant, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.
Of course they had to get some swimming in.
The end of Brother and Sister Day was someting they had both been preparing for all week long.
The Chopped Challenge.
We love to watch the Food Network show Chopped. If you are unfamilar with the format of the show, it goes like this. Four chef's get baskets filled with 4 mystery ingredients and have to make an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Each dish is a new round and gets 4 new mystery ingredients. Judges decide who gets to move on to the next round and who gets Chopped! The dessert round is always the last 2 contestants.
So George and Gillian decided they wanted to end the day with the dessert round Chopped challenge.
Jasmine and I came up with the mystery ingredients for the baskets. We wanted to make it difficult for them but not too gross since we were the judges and didn't want to eat anything too freaky.
The ingredients were, Rice Cakes, Nestle's Quik (powder), Pumpkin Butter, and Prickly Pears (Cactus fruit).
Both freaked out at the Cactus fruit since neither one had ever had it before. Watching them run around our kitchen looking for ingredients to add to their creations was hysterical.
I recorded the entire thing but need to edit together all the footage. Me, my wife, and my buddy Jeremy were the judges and let me tell you, it was seriously entertaining.
I am not sure I can pull off putting it together for tomorrow's You Tube Tuesday but if not, it will be next week. So awesome. I also don't want to tell you who wins since that would ruin it.
All and all the day seemed to be awesome. They both had a great time hanging out together and spending the day enjoying each others company.
