You Tube Tuesday - The Big Blue Test 2012

Check out the video I wrote about yesterday. It is fantastic. I have already watched it about 20 times!

Today is the kickoff of the Big Blue Test. If you do know what the Big Blue Test is, check out this video. It explains how it works.
Did you happen to spot a sweaty ninja in that video? My son and I were honored to be featured in the first promo video made and this year I was able to take part in the next video coming out soon.
So in case you missed it, here is how it works. Test your BG. Exercise for 14 minutes. Test your BG again. Go online and record your results. That's it!
If you are wondering why I am asking you to do this, please read the info below from the Diabetes Hands Foundation. It explains all the good that can come from doing this.
In 2012, when we reach our goal of 20,000 Big Blue Test results between October 15, 2012 and the end of Nov. 14, 2012 (World Diabetes Day), Diabetes Hands Foundation will award US $100,000 in grants to non-profit organizations in the US and overseas with the sponsorship of Roche Diabetes Care, makers of ACCU-CHEK® diabetes products and service. Five grants of US $10,000 will be awarded to organizations in the US and two grants of US $25,000 will be awarded outside the US.
See? Cool huh? You get the benefit of how exercise, even 14 minutes of it, can have an effect on your blood glucose level AND some other great organizations get some benefits too. A win/win in my book.
So what are you waiting for? Need to change your shoes? Find a headband? Yoga mat? Don't get too crazy if you don't wanna. I did 14 minutes of jogging in place right here in my office! Easy!
This morning as I was getting ready for work I decided to step on the scale and see how the whole "Dukan" thing is going.
Since I started this thing I am at a total weight loss of 31.5 lbs.
Whoa.
My BG's have been amazingly good. A couple of lows with some unexpected exercise but other than that I have been pretty darm good. I feel great! Especially when I break in a new notch in my belt.
Still I am not making the time to exercise which I need. It is sporadic at best and I am not sure how to remedy it. The dance class fell apart because one week I was sick, then my wife was busy, and after that we just felt like we should wait and take the class at another time.
Some people asked me if I miss eating all the carbs I used to. Honestly, I don't. I mean I would love to eat a stack of french fries when I have a lettuce wrapped turkey burger but I don't miss it. It's more of the habit of it. A side salad foots the bill quite nicely and then I know what I am eating is doing me more good than harm.
For so long I focused on my taste buds and now that I am trying to eat healthier I am finding my taste buds are changing! I crave veggies which is nuts! But I love it.
The other part of my ability to stay on track with this diet is that I know it will not be forever. When I reach my goal weight (lots more to go) than I will introduce some of that stuff again but I am not really that excited about it.
For me it is about being healthy, living long, and feeling my best. It took a long time for me to understand that I needed to take care of my diabetes and now I am understanding how I need to take care in what I eat for my body's sake.
I am a slow learner but I am finally figuring it out!
Thanks to everyone who participated in No D Day yesterday. I enjoyed reading all the cool posts about things other than diabetes. I love what we share about our disease but it truly helps me and I believe others too but it's fun to hear about other stuff too. I am still working on a few more posts to read but I am almost through them all!
