Avoiding Sick
Last weekend my son was George was sick. Headache, cough, congestion, fever. The whole mess.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday Gillian got sick. Poor thing was sneezing like crazy and coughing all night. She too had a fever and finally got over it all on Saturday.
Yesterday morning Jasmine wakes up feeling bad. Fever 101° and a splitting headache. She is home sick today coughing, sneezing, congestion, and aches.
Yuck.
So now I wait. I have been trying to drink a lot of fluids, and wash my hands as often as I can but honestly, I know it's just a matter of time.
It seems that if anyone in my office is sick or if anyone at home gets sick I get it. No matter what. They are sick for 2 days and I am sick for a week.
Does this happen to you? I have been told before that us diabetics have weaker immune systems but I wonder if you in the diabetes community online have the same problem.
Let your ninja friend know k?
p.s. Yay for the last day of NaBloPoMo!
p.s.s. There is a message on the home page you may want to read.

I don't know how I did it this time, but both Ally and John had the yukies. Gave it to my dad who got bronchitis and pneumonia from it.
I survived - 100% illness free. No idea how.
So sorry to hear your whole family has been feeling crappy - and here's hoping that you don't end up getting it after all. Like a reverse jinx, because you blogged that you would definitely get it. :) Yes, I do get sick quite often. But not as much as I used to when I was working. I also find I seem to get milder cases - because I'm not forcing myself into work when I should be home resting. I think being able to rest and recover as soon as I feel something coming on helps a lot.
Hey George - it sounds like your immune system is much like my wife's - non existent. As a Diabetic I would expect mine to be weak, but it's really the opposite. I just got sick for the first time in about 2 years a few weeks ago. Not even with a fever or anything, just sinus stuff. My 4 yr old and 7 mth old go to daycare and bring a lot of germs home. So, there's no lack of germs in our house. I just am lucky to have an iron-clad immune system.
It's really a kick while your down to have to deal with crazy blood sugars from being sick on top of trying to count carbs, basals and keep good control in general. Good luck man.
I don't buy into that whole "Diabetes = weak immune system". The way I see it, my immune system is TOO STRONG - it even killed my own beta cells...
So, I call bullshit on that whole weak immune system hillabulloo.
I hope you can avoid the ick.
I'm okay unless I'm stressed... which seems to be an every day occurance at work. If I am stressed, then I can catch the tiniest thing and I get it worse and it lasts longer than anyone else that has had it, or has it. My friends joke that I am the poster girl for Bubble Girl (aka Bubble Boy). :)
I agree with Scott above - I think my diabetic immune system is actually really good. I rarely seem to get the colds and illnesses that my lovely co-workers fall foul of with monotonous regularity.
Hope you can avoid the sick! We had family swine flu during Thanksgiving so I know how you felt! Airborne has become a family favorite this last month. And has helped the severity. maybe start some of that for the next two weeks and see how it goes.
I'm with Scott on this one. Apparently I just never get sick (let this not be a jinx!). I've had one very minor cold in the last 8 years - I like that! The cold I did have was 2 days long and barely worthy of the name. I think I have an over-active immune system. My body seems to think so too as it keeps coming with auto-immune diseases :(
