Basal Here, Bolus There

When my wife went to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription of Insulin she was told that they were all out. They placed an order for it and expected it in this morning around 10AM.
When I got home last night my wife tells me the news and asks if I will be okay for today since she was pretty sure I was out of Humalog. I figured I would be good.
Until this morning as I was getting ready for work and I heard the BEEP BOOP BEEP of Master P letting me know I had a low reservoir. GREAT.
I am horrible about calling prescriptions until the last minute but I have never had an issue with insulin before now.
My pump told me I had enough hours to get through the day at work but that did not include any bolusing for meals and corrections.
I thought about pulling my reservoir out and adding this little bit to my pump but that just seemed like a lot of work for such a small amount.
So I decided to just bring the bottle with me, and take any boluses via syringes and have my pump continue with my basal insulin. So far it has been okay. I checked my BG when I got to work and added in my carbs for breakfast. Master P gave me a dosage to take and I just cleared it and drew up a syringe.
I am going to have to be careful not to snack or eat anything too carbtastic because I cannot get to the pharmacy until after work. Oh well, this will work for one day.

Sucks. Sorry :( I hope you get through the day ok though... sounds like you have a good plan.
I think people with diabetes should be able to put the condition on their resume- illustrates refined project management skills and innovative problem solving thinking!
Oh George! I wish we lived closer. Since Jessie was just diagnosed in June she hasn't worked up to any huge daily amounts and we end up throwing out insulin (both humalog and lantus) every month. I would have given you some!
I do that all the time. Sometimes, it's just not a good time to change the site.
Are things getting better with Symlin?
Virtue - LOL That is so true! We have to be pretty creative at times. In fact, check out my McGuyver action one night at an art show. http://tinyurl.com/ygf2qno
Carla - that would have been awesome! thanks for the thought!
shannon - I tried 30 units for breakfast yesterday and got terribly sick. I am sticking with 15 for a while then i'll try bumping it up!
Luckily I've never been in that situation but that was good thinking! Do you keep extra supplies & insulin at work? I very rarely have to use the ones I keep in the office but it's a little comforting to know they are there if necessary. I hope you make it the rest of the day just fine!
That stinks!
I hope you don't have any problems getting your insulin today, I know how frustrating that is. On vday, my prescription was expired and the dr. didn't refill it until the next morning. I made sure not to eat any carbs and when i refilled there was 0.1 units left in my reservoir!
Lot's of extra pokes for you that day!
I love VIrtue's comment - refined project management skills and innovative problem solving abilities for sure!
