Little Things

We can all agree that diabetes sucks. Without a doubt, it is no fun at all but sometimes we can do little things that actually cheer us up.

Like this!

I bought a new cover for my Dexcom receiver and to be honest with you, every time I pull it out of my pocket I am happy to see it! I love the blue color and it is a thousand times better than the ugly clear one, which is more like smoky looking thing to me but whatever.

I wonder what kind of little things we can do to make our diabetes life a little more bearable or at least make us smile a little.

Once I had a Lakers skin on my insulin pump that was kind of cool. Buying a cool cupboard to store all my diabetes stuff made me happy too. Little things help.

Sure they don’t make it all better but anything we can do to make our diabetes life a little easier is a win in my book.

Have you done anything “little” that has made your d-life a little better? I want to hear!

I absolutely agree - little things make all the difference in the world!!

There's always some shiny new toy that makes things just a little better! I've done it all--new cases for my supplies, swapping out for a new and different meter. I think the littlest, and seemingly least interesting thing I did was to buy a Multiclix to prick my fingers, and yet it pulled me right up onto the bandwagon of good testing habits, at least for a few days. My next new shiny diabetes toy is going to be a new medical ID bracelet for myself. There are so many cool-looking ones out there now!

I named my pump, The Don of Rage Bolusing (or the kid-friendly version, Bacon) to make myself smile and remember to just have fun with this device attached to me all the time. Also got an American Flag sticker skin for my pump earlier in the summer, which makes it more festive and pleasant to look at, too. Those little things do help! Thanks for sharing this George! (BTW: love the little piggy in the background there!)

k2 - And the more we do the better!

Hannah - First off i love my multiclix and secondly, I think a new medical bracelet is a great idea. I wear a necklace but I think a bracelet would be cool.

Michael - I love both of those names! That piggy reminds of the freshest bacon ever. ;)

I totally agree - gotta do something to keep myself afloat here. Bought a new case for all of G's D-stuff - it holds EVERYTHING - and honestly, you would have thought I won the lottery!

How funny! I thought I was the only one!! I mean I love pretty medic alert bracelets! I also like to have a cute supplies bag. It really is the little things :)

I would say just switching from a less ugly meter did it for me, and what I learned is that most of the major brands (J&J One Touch Ultra, Bayer Contour, Abbott Freestyle, Roche Accu-Check) really are largely interchangeable. No, you cannot use One Touch strips in an Abbott Freestyle meter, but they all work pretty much the same way and have generally comparable features, so if I took pleasure in having a Bayer Contour USB meter over an ugly J&J One Touch Ultra meter, then that works for me. It may cost J&J, but its really no loss to me personally, so I switch brands more freely today than I once did.

I also have a blue Dexcom case and it does make a difference. I love the blue (and the pink, because I'm all ladylike and stuff).

And that little piggy made me smile. :)

I used to have a blue cover on my dexcom and my ping. Problem is my Jack Russell terrier likes to eat the covers. She is lucky, I love her.

I love new D things. We have to have something to make our D life a little happier. But you know what made me smile even more?? That cute little pig in the background. I used to have a whole bunch of those (they were part of a game I purchased when I was teaching school). That pig made me smile. :D

my kid got a free skin for her pump at FFL and she's been digging that. she can't wait to show it off at d-camp. also, when we were at epcot (in japan), we bought her a small case with characters from 'my neighbor totoro' on the outside, and that's her new carrying case for her tester, etc. she likes that a lot too. it's the small things. like tiny plastic pigs. :)

I organized my supply closet... is it weird that it made me happy??

It's true. As humans, we are attracted to certain things. And I want that little piggy!

:) We have a cool skin for her Ping remote...and bedazzled it.

Oh yes we did!

Yay for the new blue skin that makes you happy!!!! A while back I answered a survey and received a coupon for a free pump skin in return. I didn't really see any skins that I loved, so I created my own (the cats with yarn skin in my blog banner) and tried the coupon code for the custom skin - and it took it!! When the skin arrived I liked it, but didn't think I would ever spend money on a skin. However, since then I realize how happy my cat and yarn pump makes me every time I look at it - and I would absolutely re-order the skin if this one falls off!! Also, I blinged out my meter at the JDRF booth at FFL - and I smile every time I pull it out. Partly because I love the cute turtle and jewels that now grace it, and partly because it reminds me of FFL!!! LYLB

I claimed a shelf in the bathroom closet after years of storing my stuff inconviently on the floor. Every time I reach for my site change box it makes me smile that I have my own space... what took me so long.. HA
