D-Blog Week Day 2: One Good Thing

Living with diabetes (or caring for someone who lives with it) sure does take a lot of work, and it’s easy to be hard on ourselves if we aren’t “perfect”.  But today it’s time to give ourselves some much deserved credit.  Tell us about just one diabetes thing you (or your loved one) does spectacularly!  Fasting blood sugar checks, oral meds sorted and ready, something always on hand to treat a low, or anything that you do for diabetes.  Nothing is too big or too small to celebrate doing well!

I have watched the cursor on my computer blink for about 5 minutes and I have no clue what to write? One thing good? I gots nothing.

GOT IT!

One thing I am really good at is being open and honest about it. Sure it may not seem a big deal but I am will to explain it, share it all, and correct people if I hear stuff that is incorrrect.

"Are you sure you want to hear all this?" That is my typical response when people ask me what the difference is between type 1 and type 2. I would break out a white board if I had one handy.

Talking about your faults and mistakes can be difficult. I celebrate the fact that I am not there any more so sharing my past is something I am always willing to do. Especially if it will help someone who is new to the diabetes life feel less alone.

One thing you are REALLY good at is encouraging others and giving us the warm fuzzies!

George, I love this! I need to do a better job of informing the uninformed. I think I need to send you a small white board that you can clip to your belt. ;-)

Leighann - I do like to give warm fuzzies! I forgot about them!

Kate - A utility belt with a white board would be awesome.

Zak - LOL I never thought of that!

Talking about mistakes does help other people but you have a lot of other great things you do too!

And because you are open and honest, many people don't feel so alone in this anymore! You are a blessing!

Your joy in life is what keeps me reading your blog. You're sincere and truly love being part of this world. It's pretty nice and special.

Love this post, George! You rock in sharing your story so openly and honestly, and it's been a privilege reading your stuff through the years. You've opened a window into your soul that has allowed so many others to do the same, and that's opened countless doors in the larger diabetes community... all because of you being awesome. Thanks for doing what you do and being who you are. Now, I totally want to pump-bump and give you a huge, brotherly hug.
