Ninja Stars

Today I am going to huck some stars your way but don't worry, I won't hit you. Figure these as just some week end bullet points. I have so many things I want to say I figure this is a way to do it.

No D-Day was a total success! We had 56 posts listed on the Blogroll and Twitter was alive with "getting to know you" tweets. It was so great to learn so much about my friends. Thank you to all who participated. I would love to hear what you thought about it.

We are only a few weeks away from World Diabetes Day. November 14th is the day and plans are already in the works for what I am planning. A good idea is to check the site and see how you can get involved or what you can do to raise awareness.

My good friend Wil who blogs over at Life After DX has written some fantastic books. He is now offering a book for the newly diagnosed type 2 online, for FREE! I have a link on the home page to the book in both English and Spanish.

GO SEE BURIED! It is an amazing film that will have you on the edge of your seat! Here are two very cool posts about it. One from Scott and one from Kerri.

I still have not posted about last weekend. That is coming soon I promise. But one night a few of us Team Ninjabetic members recorded a Live episode of Just Talking. I will forewarn you, there is a lot of laughing going on.

Also there is a Ninjabetic Weekend Flickr group with lots of pics from the walk and party. I would love for you to check them out!

I hope you all have a great weekend. I am sure to be around on Twitter so if you don't follow me, please do and say hello! Take care.

What I Am

Husband

I married my high school sweetheart. I remember when I first saw Jasmine at a fundraiser car wash and it was love at first sight.

Father

I have two of the most awesome kids around. Son is 16, Daughter is 12. Both rock.

Drummer

I started playing drums in 7th grade and I can bust out booty shaking jams on the skins!

Musician

I have written a few songs. Some you may have heard of, some you haven't. Some good. Some meh.

Christian

I am not ashamed of what I believe and you shouldn't either, whatever it is.

Friend

My friends are my family. If you are my friend then you are family.

Dreamer

I have so many dreams but some feel so real, so close that I can almost see them coming around the corner.

Scared

The future scares the heck out me. I have faith that my life will always be good but can I achieve my dreams? It scares me to think that my dreams are just that.

George

All I can ever be is just myself. There a lot of things I want to change about myself but there are more things that I don't. One day I will be totally at peace with the person I am but until then I have to keep trying to get it right.

No D-Day Tomorrow!

After this past weekend diabetes is a topic I can’t stop thinking about. I keep replaying all of the people and moments that made my 20th anniversary of diagnosis a true celebration of life and support.

But tomorrow, I am going to shelve it.

Tomorrow is “No D-Day” and it means we spend one day not writing about, tweeting about, Facebook status-ing about Diabetes!

We are more than a disease, a lot more and tomorrow is a day to share some of that. There are many facets to each one of us and since we do talk so much about our D lives, we maybe miss some other cool stuff about each other.

Maybe talk about your family, or your favorite past time. You could post about a great vacation story or a favorite movie.

Tell us a little something about yourself that you want us to know! We would love to read about it.

If you do post about it, be sure and add it to the No D-Day blogroll. It’s located at www.ninjabetic.com/nodday That way there is one place to find them all!

The other side of this non-D coin is Twitter and Facebook. How can we possibly tweet about our day when we have diabetes? It’s easy, don’t mention it. There is more going on in your day than diabetes and tomorrow is a day to share it!

It’s not easy. It is a serious exercise to avoid all D talk but, I think it is a positive step in seeing that life is more than diabetes. We are more than diabetics or PWD’s.

We give diabetes a lot of attention, let’s spend one day and give the rest of ourselves the spot light.

You Tube Tuesday #191 - Not By Choice Slideshow

The next few posts are going to be all about the walk/diaversary party/meetup weekend. But for today I want to share a clip with you.

At the after party I put together a little presentation about my diabetes life. At one point I asked all of the PWD's in the room to stand, say their name, and tell us how many years they have had diabetes.

After we went around the room I played my song live and this slidshow was playing in the background.

Thanks to all of you who sent in your pictures for the project. I think the point I wanted to make came through and I couldn't have done it without your help. Thanks!

Not Ready

I am not ready to post about this weekend. I can tell you that it was one of the highlights of my life and I know whenever I think about it, I will be moved to tears.

Scott and I are going to hang out today before his flight. I am not ready to say goodbye to him but I know weekends like this are way too good to last which is about the most criminal thing I have ever heard of.

This evening I am going to compress, reflect, and attempt to share with you the magnitude this weekend was for me.

In the meantime check out Sara's post and Katie's post too.
